The Equinox, Supermoon and Eclipse 20-21 March 2015

Autumn equinox abundane

The next few days will bring a whole heap of astrological happenings which are likely to have a big effect on people and the world. There is a Total Solar Eclipse at the last degree of Pisces on Friday 20th and the Autumn Equinox on Saturday (21st) morning. To make it even bigger, the new Moon on Friday will be a super-Moon which will have a stronger than usual effect on everything from high tides at the beach to personal emotions.

A Solar Eclipse happens when the Moon and the Sun are aligned with each other, as happens every month with a New Moon, but in an eclipse the Moon passes in front of the Sun and blocks it from view. A Super-Moon occurs when the path of the Moon takes it closer to the Earth than usual, making it appear much bigger and increasing its gravitational pull on the oceans and people.

The Solar Eclipse in Pisces has very strong energies for letting go and ending a cycle. As it is a Total Solar Eclipse the energies will be more powerful than usually experienced during a New Moon. It is important to stay in the present and grounded in the reality of day to day life at this time. There can be a tendency for some people to get lost in their thoughts and fears and end up being very anxious about the future, when there really isn’t that much to worry about. At its highest energy, this time is good for letting go of old hurts and psychic wounds and allowing unconditional love to take its place. And remember, new beginnings come of out of ending the old and outgrown.

The Autumn Equinox occurs when the Sun is directly above the Equator making the days and nights of equal length. The Autumn Equinox will occur in the morning of Saturday 21st March in Australia this year. This is the day that heralds the beginning of Autumn.

This is a time of harvest, both in the garden and spiritually. It is a good time for looking back at how far you have come since last Winter when the yearly cycle began. As the seasons turn and the days become shorter and colder, many people start to withdraw into their homes and domestic lives (especially here in Tassie where it gets VERY cold!). Preparing your nest and slowing down to enjoy the quieter and simpler things in life becomes more appealing for many.

A good way of harnessing the positive energies of this time is to think about what you have achieved since last Winter. Writing it down is good way to make it sink in and not lose track. No matter how small it is or how big, write it down and then congratulate yourself. And don’t forget all the times you just kept everything going no matter how difficult things got – sometimes that is the biggest accomplishment of all! Then look at what hasn’t been working so well. Ask yourself if it needs to be changed or perhaps let go of altogether. Sometimes just changing a few small things can make all the difference – especially in relationships- so think things through carefully.

You can also do the old children’s game of catching a falling leaf and making a wish. This ‘game’ actually has very ancient spiritual origins associated with fertility and the power of changing seasons. You can also use fallen leaves in a simple letting go ritual. You collect some dead leaves that have fallen, write on a small piece of paper what you want to be removed from your life – debts, worries, ill-health etc. Put the paper within the leaves and (safely) light them. The idea is that as the leaves and paper burn away so to do your problems.
